A Humble Farewell

This is it. The last one. My final thoughts…at least for now anyway.

I’ve been contemplating what I should write about for my very last “curly cue.”

My very last blog post.

My very last words of wisdom.

And I think I (hopefully) have it.

It’ll probably seem a little too simple, but why make it more complicated than it needs to be? But this is truly from the heart and something that needed to take root before I could even start this blog.

If I don’t work at this on a daily basis, it’s hard to see God in something as common as a hair style.

I need a humble heart.

Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.”

{James 4:10}

I can’t learn anything good from my curls if I first don’t acknowledge where they come from: God Himself. He knit me together in my mother’s womb and that, my friends, is beautiful. He formed every detail of you and me and declared that it is good.

Part of humility is recognizing who God is (perfect, holy, righteous, worthy) and therefore, agreeing with what He has deemed as “good.” In other words, looking to Him and what He thinks as far superior to my own or any other person’s thinking.

God has blessed me with my curly Qs, no matter how imperfect they may be, and I praise Him for that. I’ve learned that I can’t properly thank God for the things He’s given me if I don’t view them in the same way that He does. The only way to do this is by first learning His mind, which is His Word. And the only way to accept His Word is with a humble heart.

Humility is a major theme throughout all of Scripture and Jesus was the perfect example. Jesus, having the very nature of God, made Himself nothing by being made in human likeness and taking the form of a servant. Then He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to death – even death on a cross. {Philippians 2:6-8}

Without His humility, we would have no assurance of eternal life.

Without His humility, we would have no Messiah, Redeemer, or Rescuer.

Without His humility, we would have no gospel; no good news.

Humility brings salvation.

In addition, God’s promise to exalt the humble is perfectly seen in Jesus.

Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”

{Philippians 2:9-11}

I think it’s important to note why God exalted Jesus: “to the glory of God the Father.”

Humility brings God glory.

What are you afraid to agree with God as “good” in your life? That very thing could potentially be what God is trying to use to bring Him glory and maybe even make a way for salvation, if only you will humble your heart. I needed to do just that with my lion’s mane.

My prayer for every blog post has been that it would glorify God and be used for His purposes, not mine. My writing is not my own. My life is not my own. My body is not my own. And yes, even my hair is not my own. It’s all the Lord’s.

So here it is, the last one…

CURLY CUE #14: No matter what might be a daily struggle in your life, seek God with a humble heart, share it with others, and rejoice in His goodness that’s found most fully in Jesus Christ, our Lord.

Curl up with the Truth. It’s worth it.

Until Next Time,

Brenna, the girl with curly hair ❤

Father, teach each reader that everything can be used for YOUR glory — even curly, frizzy hair. And awaken them to humbly agree with what you say as ‘good’ so that they may delight more deeply in your Word and in their Savior, Jesus Christ.”

I just love my parents. We’re a bunch of goofy goobers. What a treat!

P.S. Thanks for journeying through this blogging experience with me! I hope you were challenged and reminded that God can be glorified in every aspect of this life and give us a longing for the next.
